What is caller line?

Caller line identification (CLI) is a telecommunications feature that allows the person receiving a call to view the telephone number of the incoming caller, if the caller hasn't blocked their number.

The information is transmitted by the telephone network and displayed on the receiver’s screen. This is especially useful for businesses, as they can screen incoming calls and choose which ones to answer depending on who is calling. It is also beneficial for individuals who wish to avoid unwanted calls or spam calls.

In addition to displaying the caller’s phone number, some advanced systems can also show the caller’s name or other information related to their phone number. CLIs are mostly used in landline and mobile phones, and the feature is usually included in the service package offered by telecommunications companies.
